Isabelle Ann Thomas
Isabelle Ann Thomas was born in Ohio in 1845, a daughter of David Thomas and his wife Easter, both Ohio-born. By 1855 the family had moved to Coles County in east central Illinois: in 1860 they were farming in South Okaw Township, David, 45, Easter, 43, and the children Joseph F., 20, Samuel S., 17, Isabel A., 15, John W., 13, and Marion H., 5, the last born in Illinois. Her mother's name she passed on to her fourth child, Susan Esther, called Hester.
On 9 November 1865 she married George Washington Miller in Coles County. He was a Tennessee-born private just home from three years in the 54th Illinois Infantry, discharged that February. She bore eleven children between 1866 and 1888, and raised them on the farm near New Salem in Cowley County, Kansas, where the family had settled by 1880. Ten of the eleven stood at their father's funeral in September 1907.
She was widowed at 62 and lived on for 27 years, dying in 1934 at about 89. She is buried beside George in the Graham section of Union-Graham Cemetery at Winfield. Her stone names her as the wife of George Washington Miller, married Nov 9, 1865.
