1911-1991 · Pierson FL
Born 1911, Pierson, Volusia County, Florida, USA
Died 1991
Father: Jacob James Raulerson
Mother: Alice Louise Raulerson

Jake Raulerson was born on 25 December 1911 at Pierson, in Volusia County, Florida. His parents were Jacob James Raulerson (1872 to 1954) and Alice Louise Clifton (1872 to 1964). On his own marriage record he is Jakie Raulerson Jr., and his father Jake Raulerson Sr.

He was the youngest of at least five children. His brothers and sister were Robert Hill Raulerson (1898 to 1982), Jessie E. Raulerson, later Mrs. Hayman (1903 to 2001), Bert Broward Raulerson (1906 to 1942) and Herman Edward Raulerson (1909 to 1984), who served as a staff sergeant.

On 24 November 1934, at 22, he married Mildred Price, 21, at Fairfax, Virginia. He gave his work as trucking. Mildred had grown up in Pierson too, the daughter of George Benjamin Price, a cypress-company foreman killed in 1920, and Alice May Minshew.

The couple settled in Washington, D.C., about 1936. Jake drove for the Yellow Cab Company. His draft card from Washington describes him as five feet ten, 142 pounds, with gray eyes and black hair, and gives his birthplace as Pierson. The person who would always know where he was is written as Jake James Raulerson, his father.

Three children were born in Washington: Robert, announced in November 1938; Sandra, announced in October 1940; and Jacqueline Carole, born on 5 June 1942.

On 24 January 1944 he was inducted into the Army at Fort Myer, Virginia, as a private, serial number 33752800. He was 32, married, with four years of high school, and his civilian trade was given as a driver of buses, taxis and trucks. By the following autumn he was in Italy with the infantry. That autumn the American Fifth Army was fighting north through the Apennine mountains toward Bologna. On 11 October 1944 he was wounded in action.

The Evening Star of Washington reported the wound on 30 January 1945: "He is a native of Pierson, Fla., but had lived in the District for eight years when he went into the Army last February. At that time he was a taxicab driver." It named his wife and the children, Robert, 6, Sandra, 4, and Jacqueline, 2, and said he had recovered and been assigned to light duty.

After the war Jake went back to Florida. He and Mildred were divorced in Pinellas County on 19 March 1947, and in the same year, also in Pinellas County, he married Pearl Reitz. In April 1950 the census found him in Sumter County, Florida, with Pearl, his three children by Mildred, Robert, 11, Sandra and Jacqueline, and a James E. Raulerson. Jake and Pearl were divorced in Manatee County in January 1971.

In his later years Jake Raulerson served with the Florida Highway Patrol, and he rose to the rank of captain. His bronze grave marker reads "Jake Raulerson, Captain F.H.P." By 1981 he was living at Tallahassee, the state capital, where the patrol has its headquarters.

Jake Raulerson died in Leon County, Florida, on 20 January 1991, aged 79. He is buried in Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park, Tallahassee, in the Garden of Whispering Pines. His wife at his death was JoAnn Harris Raulerson (1929 to 2026).
