James Burton Jennings
James Burton Jennings was born in Missouri, in 1884 by his gravestone and on 18 October 1882 by a memorial to him. His father's people were Missourians as well. A family compilation names his parents as John Ervin Jennings, born in Boone County, Missouri, in 1856, and Fannie J. Burton, and has the family moving on to western Oklahoma, where both died.
He married Ethel Lena Seal, who was born in Tennessee in 1886. They had four sons: Frank J. in 1905, Bernell, called Barney, in 1907, Clarence R., called Buck, in 1910, and Ray William on 9 December 1913, who was born in Oklahoma.
In 1930 James was 46 and living in Kay County, Oklahoma, on the Kansas border, with Ethel, 43, and their youngest son Ray, 16. The census gave James's birthplace and both of his parents' birthplaces as Missouri.
The family moved north into Kansas. His son Buck's daughter was born at Greenwich, Sedgwick County, in 1934, and by 1940 his son Ray was working the oil fields of McPherson County. Ethel died in 1941 and was buried at McPherson. James died in the mid 1940s and lies near her in the McPherson Cemetery, under a matching granite marker that reads "James B. Jennings 1884 - 1944".
