James Harris
James Harris was living at Boston by 1666, when he married Sarah Denison, and he and his wife had eleven children whose births the town recorded. Where he was born, who his parents were, and when he crossed the ocean are all unknown.
The Boston entries run in the town's usual clipped form, a child and a date and nothing else: Sarah on 2 March, James on 4 April 1673, Margaret on 16 January, Mary on 3 February, Asaph on 10 November, Anna on 22 April, an Ephraim on 17 December and a second Ephraim on 11 July, and another Mary on 11 October. All but the last three, and Margaret who died an infant, were baptized at the Old South Meeting House in 1683.
About 1690 he and Sarah left Boston for New London in Connecticut. He made his will there on 4 June 1714, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, and left his whole estate to Sarah for her maintenance during her natural life, whatever remained after her death to be divided equally between those of his children who survived her. He signed it with a mark. Robert and Joanna Denison witnessed it, and it was proved on 13 September 1715 before a court whose clerk was another Denison, so he died among his wife's people.
