James Henry Bullock
James Henry Bullock was born in Indiana in March 1843. Both of his parents were born in Indiana too.
He married Melinda Heath, an Indiana girl a year younger, about 1866. Their son James was born in Douglas County, Illinois, on 21 November 1867, and a second son, Charles, about 1869.
In 1880 the family was farming in Shiloh Township, Edgar County, Illinois, the county just east of Douglas on the Indiana line. James was thirty seven and Melinda thirty six. Their sons James, twelve, Charles, eleven, John W., four, and Eli E., two, were at home. A daughter was born to them in Shiloh Township on 3 January 1884, and the county register of births names her parents as James Henry Bullock and Melinda Heath.
When their son James married Olive Slaughter in Douglas County in October 1891, the marriage record named his parents as James Bullock and Malinda Heath. In 1900 a James Bullock born in Indiana in March 1843, married in 1866, was farming in Ness County, Kansas, with a wife Malinda. He is very probably the same man.
Sixty years later his son James was not sure of his father's name. His Missouri death certificate of 1954 gives it as "James (?) Bullock".
