James Kingsbury was a husbandman of Boxford, in Suffolk, in the reign of Elizabeth I. A husbandman was a working farmer, below a yeoman in rank. James held his houses and land at Boxford on lease from "Mr Robert Peyton, of Isleham, esquire". Where he was born and who his parents were is not known. His brother Roger Kingsbury was living in 1590.

His wife was Agnes. Four of their children were baptised at Boxford: James on 6 September 1562, Rachel on 9 September 1565, Abraham on 9 February 1567 and Henry on 22 June 1575. The clerk entered Abraham as "Abrahm Kingsburye sonne of James Kingsburye & Agnes his wyffe".

He made his will on 12 April 1590. He left Agnes his leased houses and lands in Boxford. His sons James and Abraham were given ten shillings each, and so was "John Dyxon my son-in-law". His daughter Rachel had a bequest, and his youngest son Henry was to have forty shillings at twenty-one and four sheep. His brother Roger was made supervisor of the will, to see that it was carried out, and was given two shillings and sixpence.

He was buried at Boxford three days after making the will: "1590. James Kingsburye was buried the xv of Aprell". The will was proved on 8 June 1590 in the court of the Archdeaconry of Sudbury. Agnes lived until 1602. His son James became a yeoman of Boxford and died there in 1622.
