James Moses McKeown
James Moses McKeown, called Moses, was born on 12 December 1863, by his gravestone. He married Maggie Roberts, a daughter of a western Chester County family, and they lived a short distance outside the town of Chester, South Carolina. Their daughter Mary Cornelia was born on 28 December 1887.
Moses died on Saturday 29 July 1899, aged thirty-five. The Chester paper reported that "Mr. Moses McKeown, who lived a short distance from town, died last Saturday. His remains were buried at Armenia, an impressive funeral being conducted by the Rev. H. R. Chapman. Mr. McKeown left a widow and four children." His stone in the Armenia churchyard reads "J. Moses McKeown".
Maggie never remarried. She lived on in the mill villages of Chester and died at the Springstein mill in January 1915, "widow of the late J. Moses McKeown". Three of their daughters married, Mary to Chalmers Gaston and two sisters to men named Bigham; their son was George H. McKeown.
