Jane Reeves Wood

Jane Reeves Wood married Jacob Potter in 1836, his second of three wives. She was the mother of four Potter children: Joel, born at Ten Mile River in 1837, Margaret in 1842, David Lawrence on 3 October 1844, and Malvina in 1845. The 1840 census of Lumberland, in Sullivan County, New York, counts her in Jacob's household as a woman of twenty to thirty, so she was born about 1810 to 1820. The census names only Jacob, and she is a mark in an age column. The household stood next door to Henry Hendrickson and Elias Calkins.

She was dead by 1850: the Damascus household that year is Jacob and the children and no wife. She had crossed the Delaware with them first. David was born in New York in October 1844 and Malvina in Pennsylvania the next year, so Jane made the move into Wayne County inside her last few years and died there. Her memorial at Conklin Hill Cemetery in Damascus carries no birth date and no death date.

Her children lived on. Joel died in 1899. Margaret married Henry Boults in 1862. David Lawrence died on 18 July 1916 and is buried at Conklin Hill, and Malvina lived until 1922.

Her maiden name is unresolved. She is carried as Jane Reeves Wood, which may be a Reeves who first married a Wood, or a Wood who carried Reeves as a middle name, and no known record decides it.
