Jemima Perkins
Jemima Perkins married Nathaniel Towne at Topsfield on 27 August 1723. She bore six children over the next twelve years and gave her own name to the eldest, born on 20 May 1724.
That daughter bore two children outside marriage, in 1745 and 1753, and the town clerk entered each of them naming the mother alone.
Her own parents are not established. The Topsfield church register baptized a Jemima, daughter of John Perkins, in July 1708, and the clerk left the day blank. She is the only Jemima Perkins baptized in the town before this marriage. If the two are the same woman she was fifteen when she married, which is young for the place and the period without being impossible. The John Perkins whose children were baptized at Topsfield in those years had a wife Elisabeth, and the rest of that family runs Elliner in 1699, Elizabeth in 1705, John in 1708 or 1709, Susanna in 1712 and Dorothy in 1716.
