Jennett Mattson
Jennett Mattson was born in April 1876 in Pepin County, Wisconsin, on Lake Pepin, the wide stretch of the Mississippi below Red Wing. Her name is spelled Jennett, Janette, Jennette and Jeanette in the records of her life.
On 15 July 1891, at fifteen, she married Walter G. Hewitt of Nelson, Buffalo County, who was 28. By the census of 1900 she was 24 and had borne five children, all living: Mamie, Bessie, Ralph, Lois and Samuel. The family was then in Maxville township, Buffalo County. By 1905 they were in Sampson township, Chippewa County, with three more children, Nellie, Mary D. and William G.
By 1910 Jennette was living in the city of Chippewa Falls with her children, and Walter was not in the household. She later married a man named Eichler. She died in 1947, about seventy one years old, and her flat stone at Forest Hill Cemetery reads "MOTHER" over "JEANETTE HEWITT EICHLER, 1876, 1947".
