Jens Anfindsen
Farmer at Osen in Leikanger on the Sognefjord, born about 1742. The census of February 1801 has him at fifty-nine as Huusbonde of the first household on the farm, entered Bonde og gaardbeboer, with his wife Unni Olsdatter, fifty, and a son of twelve, Ole.
That son is Ole Jensen, who was gaardmand of Osen in his own right by the census of 1815 and whose daughter married Endre Einarsen of Tjon in 1844. The couple's marital status is worth reading closely: he is entered married once and she twice, so Unni had a husband before him.
Osen in 1801 was not a prosperous place. Eleven households are recorded on it and only two are headed by farmers holding land. The rest are cottars and day labourers, a smith, an innkeeper, and a string of entries reading nyder almisse af sognet, receives alms from the parish, or simply fattige, poor. His was one of the two households at the top of that. His own birth, death and burial are not given by any record read; his father was an Anfind by the patronymic.
