Jesse Bryant Nisbett
Jesse Bryant Nisbett was born in Texas on 27 September 1872. His death certificate names his father as John Nisbett, born in Tennessee. That was John Newman Nisbett, who died at Granbury in Hood County in 1890; Jesse's mother was Ann Elizabeth Bryant, from whose family his middle name came.
He was born in Milam County, the eldest child of John Newman Nisbett and Ann Elizabeth Bryant, and grew up in Hood County after the family moved there about 1874. On 29 December 1895 he married Lula House, a daughter of Joseph House and Martha Zellner, at Cameron in Milam County. Their first child, a boy, died in infancy on 30 October 1896. Their children included Dessie Imo, Martha Anne, Lillian Emma, born at Eastland in 1901, Joseph Newman, Jesse Clyde and Lula Lee. An infant son died young.
Jesse worked as a carpenter. He spent his last years at Chillicothe in Hardeman County, near the Red River. His doctor attended him from August 1932 for angina pectoris and myocarditis, an illness of a year and seven months. He died at Chillicothe on 4 January 1933, aged 60, and was buried there the same day. His son J. C. Nisbett of Chillicothe gave the details for the certificate, and gave his grandmother's maiden name as House, which was in fact his own mother's name. His stone, marked "Father," reads "Jessie B. Nisbett."
