Joan Bacon
Joan was the wife of Thomas Bacon of Helmingham in Suffolk. Her maiden name is not known. In his will of 31 July 1534 he called her "Johan my wyff" and made her one of his two executors, with Thomas Connyngham of Winston.
He left her everything for her lifetime. She had all his lands in Helmingham, Otley, Winston and Petthaugh, and all his movable goods: "Cornys, Cattells, stuff of Householde, horses, Cartts, ploughs." Only after her death were the lands to be divided among their children. Her son John was to have Ryste and the Winston and Petthaugh lands, her son Thomas the tenements called Julkyngs and Stoldyngs, and her youngest daughter Elizabeth the pieces called Jolyspighttyll and Mosys.
She was a widow by 28 February 1535, when the will was proved at Ipswich. She made her own will on 30 July 1540, naming her daughters Elizabeth Bacon and Anne Dow. It was proved on 12 December 1540.
