Jocie Cleo Dobbs
Jocie Cleo Dobbs was born on 12 February 1919 at Sallisaw, in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. She was known as Cleo, and her name was also written Josie. Her memorial gives her parents as James S. Dobbs and Gordilee Hightower.
On 16 July 1938, at nineteen, she married William Clarence Mayhan at Sallisaw. Their daughter Mary Lee was born there on 18 March 1939. In April 1940 the census found Cleo, 21, with Clarence and the baby in Marble Township, outside Marble City and near the Dwight Indian Training School. A second daughter, Betty Lou, followed.
Clarence worked as a plumber, and he retired from the plumbers' union local at Oroville, California. They came back to northeastern Oklahoma. When Clarence died in 1992 they were living at Bluejacket, in Craig County, and his obituary named "his wife, Jocie Mayhan of the home".
Cleo died on 19 March 1995, aged 76. She was buried beside Clarence in Maple Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw, under their double stone headed "MAYHAN", which reads "CLEO J., FEB. 12, 1919, MAR. 19, 1995".
