John Abercrombie
John Abercrombie is the father of Colville Abercrombie Sr. by the family trees and memorials, which give his dates as 1736 to 1816. No record names Colville as his son. The trees call him Jonathan, but the Jonathan Abercrombie of Laurens District was a different man, born in 1774 and dead in 1861, and the trees merged the two.
A John Abercrombie was on Raburn's Creek by 1769. On 21 December 1769 the Crown granted him two hundred acres "situate in Craven County on Raiburns Creek bounding Southward on Land held by James Abercrombie." Colville, born in 1762, farmed on that same creek all his life. The grant does not say whose father this John was.
In 1800 the census of Laurens District listed two John Abercrombies, one of them styled Esquire, beside Jonathan, William, James Esquire, Alexander and "Calvin," who was Colville. A John Abercrombie witnessed the will of Thomas Lindley on Raburn's Creek in 1809, with Colville beside him.
