John Bond was a yeoman and a proprietor of Newbury by 1642. He married Hester Blakeley on 15 August 1649. He was still at Newbury for the birth of his last child in November 1660, moved to Rowley in the years after, and was at Haverhill by 1667.

Six children are recorded: John, born 10 June 1650; Thomas, born 29 March and died 23 May 1652; Joseph, born 14 April 1653; Hester, born 25 September 1655, who married Aquila Chase; Mary, born 16 December 1657; and Abigail, born 6 November 1660, who married Ezra Rolfe.

He made his will on 31 October 1674 and died five weeks later, on 3 December. It gives his wife half of everything for life, including half of a house that was not finished, a cow of her own choosing, and a folio of Perkins. Joseph is sole executor and takes the rest. The eldest son is not named anywhere in it. It was witnessed by Nathaniel Saltonstall and by John Williams, who signed with a mark, proved it in Salisbury court on 13 April 1675, and married the widow three weeks after that.
