John Chandler
John Chandler was born at Groton, Massachusetts, in June 1749, the son of Joseph Chandler and Sarah Richardson. His family later lived at Readsboro, in the southern hills of Vermont, for about twelve years from 1765.
He was a shoemaker. In March 1775 the town clerk of Warren, Massachusetts, entered "a purpose of marriage between John Chandler of Western and Elizabeth Estey of Sutton."
John and Elizabeth moved often, and their children's birthplaces trace the road. Abigail was born at Brimfield on 21 June 1778. On that day John wrote in the family Bible his own age and his wife's, to the day. John Jr. was born at Palmer in 1783 and William at Sturbridge in 1785. Hannah followed in 1788, Reuben at Westmoreland, New Hampshire, in 1791, Isaac at Chesterfield in 1793, Sarah in 1795, David at Westmoreland in 1797 and Joel at Putney, Vermont, in 1799.
Abigail married Aaron Fiske of Chesterfield in February 1799, while the family was at Putney. Later the Chandlers moved north to Lunenburg, Vermont, where Abigail and Aaron also lived for a time. Elizabeth died at Lunenburg on 19 April 1812.
In March 1815 John was published to marry Rebecca Atwood, both of Easthampton, Massachusetts. He died at Southampton, Massachusetts, aged about 75. His son William became a judge at Lunenburg and recorded what his father and uncle told him of the family's moves.
