John H. Nienaber was born on 3 March 1815 in Hanover, and died at Cincinnati on 22 March 1889, aged seventy four.

He wrote his will three days before he died. It is short and it does three things: it asks to be buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, it orders his two houses and lots in the city of Cincinnati sold and the debts paid, and it divides everything else five ways between his son Herman Nienaber and four grandchildren, William, Laura, Alice and John Nienaber, share and share alike. The executor was J. C. Miller of Cincinnati.

The son is Herman A. Nienaber of Cincinnati, and the grandson William is William Edward Nienaber, born in the city on 27 August 1883 and six years old when the will was signed. Three generations in one line of a will book.

Eleven weeks later the estate was already being sold. On 7 June 1889 Herman and John Nienaber sold their undivided two fifths of a lot on Plum Street, eighteen feet six inches wide and ninety nine deep, which John H. Nienaber had bought from Harvey and Delilah Young. Louisa Nienaber, wife of Herman, signed with them to release her dower, and the notary took all three acknowledgements together.
