John Rose
John Rose was born in Ulster County, New York on 20 September 1790 and died at Monticello in Thompson Township, Sullivan County, on 13 March 1871, at eighty. He married Mary at the Presbyterian Church at Amity in Warwick, Orange County on 20 January 1821, and she died in 1836 at thirty-five, leaving him with young children including Delilah, then nine.
About 1846 he moved the family from Orange County to the town of Thompson in Sullivan County. By then he had married again. The 1855 state census finds him in Thompson with his second wife, Rebecca, born about 1799 in Orange County. In the same dwelling lived his daughter Ellen and her husband, James H. Rhodes. Three years earlier Delilah had married William Henry Rhodes, very probably James's brother. By 1870 John was living in Ellen's household, and he died the following March. Delilah came back to Monticello herself and died there in the 1880s.
