John Wheeler

John Wheeler was of the parish of St Edmund in Salisbury, in Wiltshire. He married Agnes Yeoman there on 1 December 1611. He was the eldest son of Dominick and Mercy Wheeler, who lived in the same parish between 1588 and 1616; his mother's maiden name was Jelly.

He sailed for New England in the ship Mary and John, which left on or about 26 March 1634. The shipping list of those who took the oath of allegiance writes his name John Wheyler. He settled at Newbury.

He made his will on 28 March 1668, opening it with the reason: considering my old age and my owne weakness. It names his children on both sides of the ocean. His daughter Anne Chase, married to Aquila Chase of Newbury, was left four pounds. His son Edward Wheeler of the Citty of Salisbury in the Realme of England was left ten pounds, of which he was to pay three pounds and ten shillings to the Chamberlain of the city. His son Adam Wheeler of the same city was left forty shillings.

An earlier Wheeler will, made by one of his parents, names him too. It leaves things to John Wheller the Eldeste Sonne of the forsaid Domny Wheller, and to Annes Wheller the wife of John Wheller five chillings or anything to the value thereof, and to Edward Wheller my son John Wheller's Eldeste sone one silver Spone, and to his brother John Wheller one pottinger.
