John Wilcox, written Willcock in his will, called himself "of Hartford, upon the River of Connecticut, payle maker." He made pails, the wooden buckets every household used. His wife was Mary. Their children were John; Ann, who married John Hall; and Sarah, who married John Bidwell.

He made his will on 24 July 1651 and signed it with his mark. He died on 1 October 1651. John Talcott, Andrew Bacon and John Barnard took the inventory, which came to 391 pounds 3 shillings.

The will looked after his wife in detail. Mary was to have twenty pounds paid in corn: forty bushels of wheat, thirty of winter wheat and ten of summer wheat, twenty bushels each of barley and rye and forty of Indian corn, all "Cleane and Merchantable." She had his two young cows, his best hog at Mattabeseck, now Middletown, two of the best shoats at home, and his colt, to be delivered safe on May Day. She was to live in "my ould howse" and the little closet between the old house and the new for life, with a third of the fruit of both orchards and firewood "Laid in the yard in Season, fitted for her to Lay on the fire." She had four pounds a year while she stayed in the house, or six if she moved or married. She had his bed, his linen, his pew, his hemp and flax, a hive of bees, his fowls, his sugar, honey, spice, silver and wampum.

His daughter Ann Hall had twenty pounds, a remnant of grey cloth and his long coat, and twenty pounds more at her mother's death. Sarah Biddell had his mare, two working steers, a cart and a plough. Sarah's children were to share forty pounds at Mary's death, and his granddaughter Sarah Willcock, his son's daughter, twenty five pounds. His son John had the rest of the goods and lands and was sole executor. He asked Andrew Bacon and John Barnard to "stand my ffriends and see my will prformed."
