Joseph Lewis

Children include Dea.

Joseph Lewis lived at Windsor and Simsbury in Connecticut. On 30 April 1674 he married Elizabeth Case at Windsor. She was a daughter of John Case of Simsbury. They had three children: Joseph, born about 1676, John, and Elizabeth.

He died young, by September 1680. His father-in-law John Case and Samuel Willcoxson took the inventory of his estate, at 33 pounds 18 shillings. On 2 September 1680 the court granted "Adms. to Elizabeth Lewes, the Relict," his widow, and added: "John Case is desired to assist the Widow."

His widow married John Tuller of Simsbury. The estate stayed open for twenty six years. On 13 May 1706 what remained was valued at 24 pounds. On 13 November 1706 the court discharged "John Tuller and Elizabeth his wife" as administrators. They released her right of dower, and the land was divided among "Joseph Lewis, John Lewis, and Elizabeth Smith, children of the sd. decd." Joseph Case of Simsbury acted for the children.

Henry Bronson's history of Waterbury, written in 1858, says the elder Joseph Lewis "died in 1706," the year of the final division. His son Joseph went to Waterbury about 1700 as a cloth weaver and became the town's deacon and its deputy to the General Court.
