Lars Andersen Hammer
Lars Andersen Hammer, born 1599 and dead 1696 at about ninety seven, was viseborgermester of Copenhagen, the deputy mayor of the capital of the Dano-Norwegian kingdom. He was Danish rather than Norwegian. The dates would have him alive from the reign of Christian IV into that of Christian V. His parents, his birthplace and the years he held office are not known.
He married Else Andersdatter Plade. Her dates are given as 1582 to 1642, which would make her seventeen years older than him and dead fifty four years before him. One of the two sets of dates is probably wrong.
His daughter Kirsten Larsdatter Hammer went to Christiania, married the mint master Peter Gruner and was left his widow in 1650 with the great house he had built in Rådhusgaten. She married second in 1654 the castle clerk and bailiff Jens Paulsen Plade. His son Hans Larsen Hammer married Anne Ottesdatter Gyldenaar, and their son Lars Hansen Hammer was a merchant in Christiania.
One further thing is recorded of him, and it is the reason his daughter is said to have known Ulrik Frederik Gyldenløve, the Viceroy of Norway, personally. Gyldenløve, born 1638, was the illegitimate son of King Frederik III and governed Norway for the crown for a quarter of a century. The family account explains the acquaintance in one clause: Kirsten Hammers far, Lars Hammer og Ulrik Fredrik Gyldenløve hadde nemlig avlet barn med hver sin søster. Lars Hammer and Gyldenløve had each fathered children by one of a pair of sisters. Which sister was his is not recorded.
