Laura Texana Miles was born on 30 January 1858 at Hallsville, in Harrison County, East Texas. She was called Teck. Her father was William Asbury Miles, a farmer who had lost an arm in the Civil War. Her mother was Nancy Ann Kuykendall, a widow when she married him. Laura was one of their seven daughters.

In October 1877, at nineteen, she married James Dollahite Woodall of Rusk County, a farmer and cotton buyer. The marriage index calls her "L T Miles." A portrait of the couple was made about 1880. They had four children: Ira David in 1879, Eva in 1881, William Miles in 1885 and Elza Ruth in 1891. Her daughter Ruth's birth record names her "Texas Laura Miles."

Her mother died in 1893 and her father in 1910. She died on 19 February 1918, aged 60, and was buried in Gum Springs Cemetery at Longview Heights. Her stone reads "Texas L. Woodall / Jan. 30, 1858 / Feb. 19, 1918 / She was the sunshine of our home."
