Louise Hitzemann
Louise Hitzemann was born in Germany on 29 October 1839. Hitzemann is a Kreis Minden name, found at Hausberge and Holzhausen, the district most of the Fort Wayne German settlement came from. She married Dietrich Heinrich Ernst Linnemeier, five years older, and they farmed in Washington township, Allen County, Indiana.
They had seven children: Henry, born in 1862; Dietrich, 1865; Fred, 1868; Minnie, later Mrs Kammeier, 1870; Louise, later Mrs Tielker, 1873; William, born on 11 June 1875; and Mary, born on 23 January 1878, who married Henry Hartman on 16 October 1907. Dietrich died on 12 September 1879, at forty-five, when Mary was twenty months old. Louise was thirty-nine. She did not remarry, and she was a widow for thirty-six years.
She lived on into her seventies on her son Fred's farm in Washington township, six miles west of Fort Wayne. On the evening of 10 September 1915 she went out with two granddaughters to drive some calves out of a cornfield and bring in the cows for milking, and a bull attacked her. She died an hour later, at seventy-five. The newspaper gave her age as seventy-six.
She is buried at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Her stone is lettered in German: "Hier ruhet in Gott", here rests in God, Louise Linnemeier, born 29 October 1839, died 10 September 1915, with a verse beneath.
