Mali Nilsdatter, also written Mali Nielsdatter, was born in Stjørdal parish, Nord-Trøndelag, about 1787. She had been married once and widowed before she was thirty two. In February 1819 she was a widow living at Bolkangjerdet, a cottar's place under the Bolkan farm in Skatval. Who her first husband was is not known.
On 8 February 1819, in Værnes church, she married Christoffer Olsen, a bachelor of 31 from Helgaard. The register gives her age as 32. Christoffer took over the cottar's plot at Bolkangjerdet, and the family lived there for the rest of his life.
Three of her children by him are known. Ole was born at Bolkangjerdet about 1822. Peter Christian was born on 10 June 1825 and baptised on 7 August, when the clerk wrote her home as Bolkanplads. Gurina was baptised on 26 June 1831. Mali is named as the mother at Ole's confirmation in 1837, Peter Christian's in 1840 and Gurina's in 1845, when the clerk called her Hustru, the wife.
Christoffer died on 23 November 1837, and Mali was widowed a second time with three children, the youngest six. What became of her after 1845 is not known.
