Margaret Isabella Haddock
Margaret Isabella Haddock was born in New York about 1854 or 1855, a daughter of William J. Haddock and Margaret Dunn. On 16 November 1887, aged thirty-three, she married Dr. Joseph Frederick Terriberry, a young physician from Clinton, New Jersey, at Brooklyn. The marriage record names both sets of parents, his as Frederick and Elizabeth Lindaberry and hers as William J. Haddock and Margaret Dunn. In later censuses her age drifted downward, to a birth in September 1858 in 1900 and 1865 in 1905.
The couple lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, at 103 West Seventy-third Street about 1890 and at 120 West Seventy-third Street from about 1902. Their daughters were Margaret, born about 1892, and Elizabeth, born in Manhattan on 31 August 1895; the birth record of Elizabeth gives her mother's birthplace as New York. Both girls went to Barnard College. In 1907 the New York Blue Book, the society directory, listed the household as "Terriberry, Dr&Mrs J. F. (Haddock) 120W73", with Miss Margaret and Miss Elizabeth. The family summered at Canaan, in the Litchfield hills of Connecticut. As Mrs. Terriberry she saw both daughters married at home in 1920: Margaret to Walter Grant Thomas in January and Elizabeth to Reynold Barlow Hoyt in November. In 1924 she and her husband were registered to vote from 120 West Seventy-third Street, and the 1930 census still finds them together in Manhattan.
Her husband died at the summer home in Canaan on 28 July 1932. She lived another fourteen years. She died at Canaan on 15 August 1946, aged ninety-one. Her daughter Margaret Thomas was later buried in the next town, North Canaan. Her death record again names her parents as William Haddock and Margaret Dunn. She was probably buried in Brooklyn.
