Margaretha Christmann
Margaretha Christmann was born about 1799 at Schwedelbach, by her age and birthplace in her burial entry. The entry places Schwedelbach in Baden. A Peter Christmann of Schwedelbach, born about 1796, was also a colonist at Alt Elft and Neu Elft and died at Neu Elft in 1837; he was probably her brother, though the entries do not say so.
She married Andreas Riethmüller, a colonist from Hopfau in Wurttemberg, before 1818, and they settled at Alt Elft in southern Bessarabia, one of the German colonies founded on the Black Sea steppe after 1814. Her son Johann Friedrich was baptized there on 15 February 1818. Georg was born about 1821, Katharina on 18 February 1824 and Magdalena on 10 August 1826. The family then moved to the daughter colony of Neu Elft, where she bore Anna Maria in February 1829, Peter in May 1831, Maria Elisabeth in July 1832 and Johann on 10 February 1838.
In April 1842 her daughter Katharina married Johann Martin Irion. Three months later, on 14 July 1842, Margaretha Riethmüller, born Christmann, wife of Andreas, died at Neu Elft, aged 43. Her youngest son Johann was four.
