Maria Bidermann

d. 1714
Died 1714
Children include Lukas

Maria Bidermann came from an Oberflacht family. Oberflacht was a small Catholic village in the Tuttlingen country of Württemberg, and its people went to the parish church at Seitingen for baptisms, weddings and burials. The clerks wrote her name "Mariae Bidermännin". The ending -in is the German feminine ending, so her surname was Bidermann.

The Bidermanns were an established family in the village. Two daughters of a Joannes Bidermann, Mechtild and Anna, were confirmed there in 1709. A Theresia Bidermann stood godmother in 1709 and 1711, and an Anna Bidermann, about sixty-six, was buried in August 1714. How Maria was related to any of them is not known.

She married Joannes Schrenck of Oberflacht some time before 1707. Three of their children are known. Lucia was baptised on 3 December 1707, Joannes on 23 May 1710 and Lucas on 14 October 1712. Their godparents were the same each time, Josephus Münck and Anna Maria Münck of Oberflacht.

Her husband died on 3 October 1713, aged thirty-six. The priest called him a Christian of the best repute. She was left with three children aged five, three and not quite one.

She lived only six months longer. On 2 April 1714 the priest entered her death in one line: "obiit Maria Bidermännin probae vitae vidua de Oberflacht." Maria Bidermann of Oberflacht had died, a widow of upright life. The entry gives no age. Lucas was eighteen months old.

Two of her sons were confirmed together at Oberflacht in October 1723, entered as the sons of the late Joannes Schrenck. Lucas grew up to be a tailor and farmer in the village. He married twice and lived until 1785.
