Martha Adams
Martha Adams was a daughter of James Adams and Frances Vassall, by the account in Deane's History of Scituate, and Savage accepted it. Her father was a son of John Adams, who came to Plymouth in the Fortune in 1621. Her mother had crossed in the Blessing in 1635 as a girl of twelve. Her mother's father was William Vassall of Belle House, one of the men named in the Massachusetts Bay charter.
Her five older brothers and sisters were baptised at the second church of Scituate between 1647 and 1654. She is not among them, so she was born after 1654.
The Scituate book enters her marriage as "Martha and Benjamen Pearce, Feb. 5, 1678", with "Feb." written above a struck "Apr." Her husband was a son of Capt. Michael Pierce, who had been killed in King Philip's War two years before, and he had inherited his father's dwelling house at Scituate.
Deane lists ten children "born from 1679 to 1699": Martha, Jerusha, Benjamin, Ebenezer, Persis, Caleb, Thomas, Adams, Jeremiah and Elisha. She gave one son her own surname as his given name. Her death is not recorded.
