Martha Frances (Beam) McCollum
Frances Catherine Beam was born about 1831 in Georgia, the eldest of the seven children of Albert Beam. Her mother was very probably America Catherine Dickson, who died in 1847. Her father was dead by the autumn of 1849, and on 3 September of that year the Cherokee County court appointed her mother's sister, Julia Dickson, guardian of all seven. The bond names her first, as Katherine F. Beam.
In 1850 she is nineteen and unmarried in her aunt's house in Cherokee County, with Jesse, Julia, Thomas, Julius O., Harry and Benjamin. On 6 May 1852 she married John W. McCollum as Frances C. Beam, before a Geo. W. McCollum sitting as justice of the peace.
Her son Thomas Melvin was born in October 1858 or 1859. Find a Grave links also give her a daughter Marjorie America and a son John Mike Beam McCollum. Her son remembered her as Martha Frances, and his 1925 death certificate names her MARTHA FRANCES BEA, the rest of the surname lost in a blot.
A memorial gives her death as 1865, in Cherokee County, and her burial place is not known. Her husband married again, to Evaline Cotton Tumlin.
