By one printed account, Martin Schenck van Nydeck was born in 1633 and died in 1704. That account is a Schenck genealogy by Colonel van der Dussen of the Netherlands army. A memoir of his son Johannes, printed in 1876, and a history of the Schenck van Nydeck family, printed in 1885, both follow it.

He was lieutenant bailiff, "or judge of the Wick or Province of Kessel," in the memoir's words, "an office which had been held by his father Theodore and his grandfather Martin, and had probably been held by members of the family for many generations." A bailiff in the lordships of the Low Countries held the court and kept order in the lord's name.

The memoir calls him "a man of considerable learning." In 1668 he took the degree of J.U.D., Juris utriusque Doctor, doctor of both laws, "i.e., the Canon and the Civil Law."

He married Maria Margaretha de Boeckhorst, who died on 12 April 1688. Their son Johannes, born on 19 September 1656, sailed from Middelburg for New York in 1683. The memoir says of Johannes that "He was descended from an old and influential family, who could trace their descent from the time of Charlemagne in the eighth century."
