Mary M. Gallaway
Mary M. Gallaway was born in Illinois about 1855. She married Gideon G. Gibson, a Louisiana-born farmer, about 1871, and they made their home in the Brazos country of Central Texas.
In June 1880 she was 25, living in Precinct 6 of Robertson County, Texas, with Gideon and their children John V., 8, Annie, 5, Luther, 2, and Ida, three months old. Albert David followed in 1884 and Emma in 1888.
Mary Gibson died on 11 March 1890, aged 33 years, 7 months and 10 days, which places her birth about 1 August 1856. Her youngest child was not yet two. Her stone in Blevins Cemetery reads: MARY M. GALLAWAY, WIFE OF ELDER G. G. GIBSON, DIED MAR. 11, 1890, AGE 33 YS 7 MS 10 DS, with the lines "Where immortal spirits reunite, There shall we meet again." Gideon lived another thirty-seven years and was buried in the same cemetery. A tintype portrait of Mary as a young woman survives, showing her in a light dress with a beaded necklace and a small dark hat.
