Mary was the wife of Robert Royce, who settled first at Stratford in Connecticut and then at New London. Her eldest child, Sarah, was born about 1634, and at least six more followed, among them Nehemiah, Jonathan and Samuel. She was widowed at New London in 1676 and died at Wallingford in 1696. She went up the country in her old age to where her sons were.

Her maiden name is not known. Families of Ancient New Haven, compiled by Donald Lines Jacobus, printed one in square brackets in 1931, from material the family supplied: Mary Sims of Long Sutton in Somerset, married to Robert Royce at Martock on 4 June 1634. The Martock register has no such marriage. What exists is an entry at Long Sutton: "Robert RAYSE, Mary SIMS," married on 4 June 1624, the same day and month ten years earlier. That couple stayed at Long Sutton and had children baptised there, Robert in 1625, Margret in 1626/7 and Mary in 1629. None of them fits the Royce family of New London.

In 1968 an article in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register said plainly that the Martock marriage "is not a fact." The Mary and John series, a compiled study of the families around the 1630 ship, found no such entry in the Martock records and judged the Long Sutton couple an unlikely match. So the surname Sims rests on nothing. Find a Grave gives her a third surname, Jackson, again without a source.
