Mehitable Hall
Mehitable Hall was born on 27 March 1745. When she married she was "of Yarmouth," the Cape Cod town next to Harwich. Her parents are not known. The Halls were an old Yarmouth family, and several of them later settled at Westminster, Vermont, as she did. She named her youngest son Atherton, a name the Yarmouth Halls also used. That points to her own family, though no record ties her to it.
On 28 October 1769 Barnabas Clark of Harwich entered his intention to marry her. The Rev. Nathaniel Stone married them on 21 December 1769. They lived in the North Parish of Harwich, now Brewster. She bore eight children there between 1771 and 1789: Alvan, Daniel, Joshua, Barnabas, Hitty, Tully, Thankful and Atherton. Tully died the day after his private baptism in July 1784, and Thankful died at two.
In 1797 the family moved to Westminster, in the Connecticut River valley of Vermont. Mehitable died there in March 1812, in her sixty-seventh year. Her slate gravestone in the Westminster West Cemetery reads: "In memory of Mrs Mehetable, wife of Mr Barnabas Clark," with the date of her death in March 1812 and her age.
