Minnie Augusta Denny
Minnie Denny crossed the Ohio river and stayed. She was born in Gallia County, Ohio on 17 April 1880, married Daniel Burns at Point Pleasant on 3 September 1895, and died at 25 Viand Street in that town sixty two years later. Her certificate gives the length of her stay in the city as life, which is the clerk rounding off, but it is close enough to true.
She was fifteen at her wedding and the licence says sixteen. Her own death certificate dates her birth to April 1880 and the licence was taken out in September 1895. The register also has no consent line for her at all, and the person who answered the clerk's preliminary questions was neither the bride nor the groom but a W. H. Sanders of Mason County. A girl of fifteen, a year added, and a third man doing the talking.
Twenty two years later she was on the other side of that desk. When her own daughter Virgie married at seventeen in May 1917, the clerk wrote at the foot of the page that Mrs. Minnie Burns, mother of the bride, was present and consenting. That line is the only record naming her as Virgie's mother.
Her father was Hudson Denny and her mother Lydia M. Greer, married in Gallia County on 26 June 1875. She is buried at Lone Oak in Point Pleasant.
