Moses Roberts lived at Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey. He married Mary Coe, the eldest daughter of Benjamin Coe, a farmer and tailor of Newark. Their daughter Sarah married Moses Gardner of Springfield and named a son Moses.

His father-in-law made his will on 30 April 1783 and named his four sons-in-law, "Moses Roberts, David Tuttle, Joseph Baldwin, and Daniel Tichenor," as executors. Moses did not live to act. He died the next year without a will.

On 23 November 1784 the court granted administration of his estate to Jesse Roberts. An administrator was the person appointed to settle the estate of someone who died intestate, without a will. Joseph Clizbe stood surety with the administrator on his bond, and David Tichenor and Josiah Tichenor made the inventory of what Moses owned.

A history of the Headley family printed in 1905 says of his daughter Sarah that she "descended from many of the oldest families of Newark, including the Roberts, Coes, Browns, Burwells."
