Nancy Elizabeth Enlow
Nancy Elizabeth Enlow, called Nicey, was born in Indiana on 18 March 1865. In 1885 she married William Henry Shell, an Ohio-born laborer who had come to Russell County, Kansas, as a teenager.
Their children were born in Kansas: Jasper, William L., Roy Robert, Walter Joseph, Chester Henry, Anna B., Laura E. in March 1898, and Lovel. In 1900 the family was at Bunker Hill, Russell County, with seven children at home. By 1910 they lived at Hoisington in Barton County, where the census entered her as Nancy E. Shell, 45, born in Indiana, with William and seven of the children, Laura the youngest at twelve. Laura gave her mother's birthplace as Indiana.
Nancy died on 9 June 1915, aged 50, a year before Laura married Warren Sherman Sellens. Her son Chester Henry Shell later gave his mother's name on his Social Security application as Nancy Enlow.
An Enlow family of Spencer County, Indiana, had a daughter Nancy E., born in 1865, at home in 1880 with her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Enlow and her sisters Sarah E., Martha B. and Amanda I. Memorials make Joseph and Elizabeth her parents. Nothing yet places that family in Kansas, so they are not shown as her parents here.
