Nancy was born in North Carolina about December 1830, and she came south. Where in North Carolina, and with whom, is not known.

On 20 January 1853, in DeKalb County, Georgia, she married Eli Stanley. The licence issued the day before calls her MISS NANCY M. PEAK, so she was unmarried before it; the return under it calls her Nancy F. McPeak, and the F is the only middle initial she has. She was twenty two and he was twenty.

They farmed in Henry County for the rest of their lives. She is on the census pages of 1860, 1880 and 1900 with him, and then she is in the neighbourhood columns of the county paper on her own account: at a party in the Gordon community in 1908 among her son and her son in law, receiving the Mitchells in 1909, visiting Mrs. Mary Berry with Victoria Thurman in 1911, keeping the Banks family of Fayetteville over a weekend, and in July 1911 with her granddaughter Fannie staying in the house. She was eighty.
