Naomi Evelyn Kerr
Naomi Evelyn Kerr was born on 6 January 1896 in Illinois. She was one of the seven children of James T. Kerr and Della Doner, who had married in April 1888. Her father became a minister of the United Brethren church, a Protestant denomination with German roots that was strong in the small towns of the Midwest. Its pastors moved from charge to charge as the church's annual conference assigned them.
Her mother died on 22 July 1909 at Joslin, in Rock Island County, where her father was pastor. Naomi was thirteen. Four years later her father married Katie C. Fawver of Gibson City.
On 15 October 1916, at twenty, Naomi married Harry Russell Lovell of Ipava. They had fourteen children over twenty-four years, from Delmar Wayne in 1918 to Steve in 1942. The family lived around Ipava, Macomb, Adair and Bushnell, and by 1942 they were settled in Bushnell. In 1950 she was fifty-four and keeping house there with five of the children still at home.
When her father died in April 1933 she was named among his seven children as "Mrs. Naomi Lovell of Adair". Ten years later her brother Theodore Kerr, a veteran of the First World War, died at the veterans' hospital at Hines, and his obituary listed her as "Mrs. Harry Lovell, Bushnell".
Naomi died on 20 July 1961, aged sixty-five. She is buried at Ipava Cemetery, and Harry was laid beside her two years later.
