Nathaniel Wetherell
Nathaniel Wetherell was born on 5 May 1696 in the Taunton North Purchase, the tract that became the town of Norton in 1711. He was the son of William Wetherell and Elizabeth Newland. His grandfather William had been in Taunton since at least 1643.
On 28 May 1713 he married Mary White, the daughter of Joseph White of Taunton. He was seventeen. They had nine children at Norton between 1713 and 1730. Their daughter Phebe died in 1729 and their son Solomon in 1733.
When Mary's father's estate was settled in July 1725, Nathaniel and Mary signed the heirs' agreement with her brothers and sisters. Nathaniel gave land in Norton to his sons as they married: to Job in September 1743, a year before Job's wedding, and to Ephraim in August 1748.
He made his will on 18 April 1760. It named his wife Mary as executrix. It left shares to the children of his dead son Nathaniel, to his daughters Charity Hewitt, Dinah Wetherell and Patience Field, to his son Ephraim, to the children of his son Job, and to his youngest son, also named Nathaniel. His daughter Mary Williams had died. The will was proved on 15 December 1760.
