Ole Olsen

Farmer at Blakstvedt in Aadal, in the Viker annex of Norderhov prestegjeld, where the Buskerud forests run up behind Ringerike. He and his wife Marit Olsdatter appear in the Norderhov registers from 1803 to 1814, and by his youngest child's baptism in June 1814 the clerk is writing him Gmd, gaardmand, a farmer holding his own land.

Five children of theirs are on the register. Kari, born 1803, died at four and was buried from Blakstvedt in 1807. Ingeborg followed in 1806, then a second Kari in 1808 who was given the dead child's name, then Ole in August 1811, and Gulbrand in June 1814. The clerk never wrote his wife's name the same way twice: Mari, Marit, Margit and once Marte, all Olsdatter, all the same woman.

The son Ole left. He married Kirsten Gudbrandsdatter at Gran across the county line in March 1839, was still in Aadal for two more children, and by 1842 had moved to Hadeland for good, where he became the self-owner of the Melbostad farm whose name his own children carried to Minnesota.
