Orsimus Gilbert
Orsemus Gilbert, of Wilbraham in Hampden County when he entered his intention of marriage there on 20 May 1793, married Annis Blair at her own town of Western on 27 June 1793. Their children were born at Becket in Berkshire County from 1795.
At Becket he was a clothier. On 11 October 1796 David Brown of Becket, gentleman, sold "Orsimus Gilbert of Becket, Clothier" house lot number 2, forty two acres, for $100. A clothier finished the cloth that farm families wove at home, fulling and dressing it at a water mill. He mortgaged the lot back to Brown, and in September 1802 he sold out to John Lester.
The next year he is found at Lebanon, in Madison County, New York. By 1805 he was keeping the first tavern in the place, and he held one of the five original shares of the land Lebanon village was built on. His son's gravestone calls him Deacon.
The family had a painted record made, with three tombstones for the children who died and a profile of each parent and of six living children. In 1966 it was on show at the Rochester Museum of Arts and Sciences. It is the only known likeness of him.
He died on 9 March 1843 and is buried at Lebanon Village Cemetery under a footstone cut O. G.
