Philip Hanavan
Born about 1835, husband of Ann and father of Mary, Henry and William. The county deed books write him as Phillip Hanavan. He was settled at Holcomb, in the town of East Bloomfield, Ontario County, New York, by 1861, when his daughter Mary was born there.
He owned land. On 10 March 1864 he bought part of Lot 75 in East Bloomfield from Benjamin F. Andrews. On 18 September 1865 he paid Ulysses M. Wheeler and his wife $800 for about thirteen acres more of the same lot, bounded by the lot's west line.
He is alive in the New York state census of June 1875, where the enumerator wrote the surname as Hanihan. He was dead by March 1880, when a surrogate's notice granted administration of his estate to Ann. That is why the 1880 census found her widowed and farming in her own name. In 1890 Ann, by then remarried as Ann Smith, and his three children sold his land as the "widow and heirs of Phillip Hanavan deceased."
Where he was born is not recorded. His wife was Irish, and he probably was too, but no record found says so.
