Polly Ann Gragg
Polly Ann Gragg was born on 15 December 1822 in Missouri. She was a Gragg before her marriage as well as after it. A compiled genealogy of the family, Descendants of Malcom-Thomas-Alexander Gragg, makes her the daughter of Thomas Gragg, a Tennessee-born farmer, and his wife Nancy Crow, who had moved to Washington County, Missouri, by 1830. That would make her a cousin of her husband.
On 26 June 1845, at Bolivar in Polk County, Missouri, Polly married Henry Harlan Gragg. A year earlier, on 20 September 1844, a sister of hers, Rachel, had married Gilbert Lunsford at Bolivar, by the same family account.
Polly and Henry made their home on Deepwater Creek in Henry County, among his brothers and his parents. Her first child, William Henry, was born in 1845 or 1846. Nancy Jane followed in 1847, then Thomas Marion in 1850, Robert Malcolm in 1852, Sarah Rebecca in 1854, Samuel Francis about 1857 and John Alexander in September 1859.
In the census of 1860 Polly was 38 and keeping house in Deep Water Township for her husband and all seven children, the youngest still a baby.
Polly Ann Gragg died on 14 February 1862, aged 39, in Bates County, just over the county line. Her youngest child was two. She was buried in the Gragg Cemetery in Bates County, the family burying ground where the compiled genealogy also places Thomas and Nancy Gragg. Two years later Henry married the widow Elizabeth Jane Sweet, who raised Polly's younger children.
