Rachel Steinmets
Rachel Steinmets married Frederick Fritts Jr., a son of Frederick Fritts and Cornelia Jewell. They lived at Lebanon in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and had nine children born between 1781 and 1799: Benjamin, William F., Margaretta, Fred. S., George, Rachel, Thomas, Morris and Jacob. Her daughter Rachel, born in 1791, married Jacob Terryberry in 1810.
Her husband made his will on 6 May 1812 and died that summer. He left her "her room, bed and bedding and whatever she needs with which to keep house" and "sole care of homestead farm, and stock during her widowhood." Their son Morris was to stay on the place with his younger brothers Thomas and Jacob, and when she remarried or died everything was to be sold and divided among the nine children. The will was proved on 15 September 1812.
She outlived him by nine years. She died on 15 April 1821, aged sixty, and was buried in the Spruce Run Cemetery at Glen Gardner, near her husband's parents. Her headstone gives her own name as Rachel Stymits, a spelling of Steinmetz.
