Rebecca Broadhurst
Rebecca Broadhurst was born in Tennessee. The census of 1850 gives her age as 62, which places her birth about 1788. Her son Robert gave her maiden name to the county historian in 1883, spelled Broadhust, and said that she and Malcolm Gragg were both natives of Tennessee and were married there.
She bore ten children. Among them were John, born about 1812, Ellender, Henry Harlan, born in Howard County, Missouri, in 1820, Mary Ann, Robert, born in Howard County on 18 July 1826, the seventh child, Susan Jane and William.
Rebecca went with her husband from Howard County to Pettis County about 1833, and in 1836 to Deepwater Creek in Rives County, now Henry County, where Malcolm entered land. Few families were there yet. Her daughters Elanda and Mary Ann were the brides at two of the first four weddings in the settlement, in 1839 and 1844. In 1850 she and Malcolm were among the original members of the Camp Branch Methodist church.
In August 1850 Rebecca, 62, was living with Malcolm in the home of their daughter Mary Ann and her husband William B. Poage in Cass County, just over the Henry County line.
Rebecca Gragg died in the mid 1850s. Her son's sketch gives 1857, and her family gives 14 January 1856. Malcolm lived until 1862.
