Robert Ephriam Garrett
Robert Ephriam Garrett was born on 3 September 1875, a son of Robert R. Garrett and Mary Elizabeth Little. His mother died in 1887, when he was eleven, and is buried at Union Cemetery in Falls County, Texas. His father lived until 1929.
He married Annie Eugenia Brown, daughter of Arthur Pinkney Brown. A Brown family biography records her husband as "A. Eif Garrett," Eif apparently being a short form of Ephriam. The same biography lists their children as Lela, Estella, Vera, Jewel, Willie B., Leola, A. E. Jr., called Buddy, and Woodrow. Their son Darnell W. Garrett, born in Falls County on 30 December 1893, died at Fort Dix, New Jersey, on 22 September 1918, while the army was training men there for the war in France. He was brought home and buried in Union Cemetery.
By 1931 he was working as a blacksmith at Belfalls. On 5 November 1931 the Marlin Daily Democrat reported his death under the headline "Belfalls Resident Meets Tragic Death Near Troy." The paper wrote that "two small boys found Garrett's body propped against a tree on the banks of Big Elm creek near Troy." He had been shot in the head and died three hours later at his home. An inquest returned a verdict of murder. The paper added that "relatives could give no motive for his slaying, but told of previous attempts to injure him."
He died on 3 November 1931. His death certificate, filed in Bell County, where Troy lies, named his parents as Robert R. Garrett and Mary Little. He is buried at Union Cemetery, where his stone names him husband of Annie Eugenia Garrett.
