Roberta Ruth Dowdy

Roberta Ruth Dowdy was born on 23 December 1949 at Tulsa, Oklahoma, the second of the three children of William Ralph Dowdy, a Texaco land man, and Flora Ruth McDonald. Four months later her father's parents were killed by the tornado that struck Holdenville. Her father's work took the family to Midland, Texas, where she graduated from Midland High School, and she went on to Oklahoma State University.

She married Don W. Hooper of Fletcher, the son of Don W. and Lois Hooper, and they made their home at Fletcher in Comanche County, where she taught family and consumer science at Elgin High School for more than twenty years. They had a daughter and a son, Dustin, and grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Her father died in 2007 and her mother in 2016 at 101.

She died on 30 August 2024 at Lawton, aged 74, after more than fifty years of marriage, and was buried in the Old Elgin Cemetery, where her husband's parents lie. The Fletcher Elgin Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
