Rose Marshe

d. 1601
Died 1601
Children include Joan

Rose Marshe came from Chipping Barnet, in Hertfordshire. According to the genealogist Eugene Cole Zubrinsky, she was a daughter of John Marshe, a yeoman and brewer there, who died in 1559. She married William Hurst at Barnet on 15 June 1560 and went with him to Henlow, in Bedfordshire.

At Henlow she had five children: Henry in 1561, Joan in 1563, John, who was buried in 1565, Agnes in 1565 and a second Joan in 1568. William Hurst made his will in June 1570. He left "Rose my wief" the lease of the vicarage close, a life interest in the house and lands he had bought of John Awdeley, and a share of the residue with the children. She was his executrix.

The will was proved in January 1572. On 4 February 1572 the Henlow register records the marriage of John Rushe and "Rose Hurst, wid." She had five more children by John Rushe, baptized at Henlow between 1574 and 1582: Elizabeth, Susan, John, Robert and Nicholas.

She lived to see her daughter Joan married twice, to Thomas Rogers in 1593 and to John Tilley in 1596, and to see several Tilley grandchildren baptized. She was buried at Henlow on 23 July 1601 as "Rose RUSHE." John Rushe married Mary Sparrowe in 1604. Her granddaughter Elizabeth Tilley was born six years after her death and sailed on the Mayflower in 1620.
